Chase was born in
Toledo, Ohio in 1924.
His father and mother were both artists and musicians. He grew up
practicing art and music, attending DePauw University and graduating
with a major in painting and a minor in music performance. He then
moved to South Florida and began painting portraits and murals.
In the fifties he moved to Indiana and began teaching, doing contract
interior design, and continuing with murals and portraits. In the
middle sixties he moved to California. His work became more concerned
with the unclothed female figure.
John was a tenured head of the Purdue University's, Art Department
(sculpture division) for seven years.
He loves the process of painting with a model posing, the smell of
sweat and coffee brewing. He exhibits regularly with the Marin Society
of Artists, a co-op Gallery in Ross, CA.
